Trinity @ Buffalo

The fact is, Trinity is a community of people who do “outreach” for a living, a vocation, a lifetime.  Church outreach is like worship, something we do communally and on occasion to strengthen and reinforce what we do everyday and all the time.  We believe that a core task of spiritual community is to inspire and support one another as we live out our Baptismal Covenant among those with whom we live and work and play.

Hands-on service opportunities through Trinity add a communal/team aspect to our service and advocacy on behalf of the love of God, but “seeking and serving God in all people; respecting the dignity of every human being; and striving for justice and peace...” is something we need to be doing every day with the way we live our lives.

The following outreach teams are a way for people that share a spiritual community to work hand-in-hand with others in the community, and in service to those who have been marginalized by the very economy and political system that have benefited many of us in Trinity.  To find out more or join a team for the month, contact Katie McClain-Meeder on Sunday morning, or during the week call Holly Maloney at 852-8314, extension 19.

Friends of the Night People Team

Feeding the homeless and low income of Buffalo, this team meets on the 2nd Monday of the month at 5:00 p.m. to serve food, organize the pantry, and do whatever else FoNP might need from us. Friends of Night People is located at 394 Hudson in Buffalo.

Compass House Team

Feeding the runaway and homeless youth, and staff of Compass House, this team meets the third Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. to cook and eat and talk with the kids...but the kids have to do the dishes! Compass House is located at 370 Linwood Avenue.

Sandwich Team

Feeding the homeless men of City Mission and the homeless women and children of Cornerstone Manor is what this team does best. Meeting on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Trinity kitchen, they prepare sandwiches to be delivered to City Mission and Cornerstone that very evening.

Homespace & Massachusetts Avenue Project

We have targeted these two programs to expand our outreach opportunities and will be forming teams over the course of the coming year.  Homespace (like Compass House, was originally organized and created by members of Trinity) provides housing, life skills and parenting guidance to young mothers.  MAP is a Buffalo Westside organization offering urban gardening and micro-business opportunities to Westside neighborhood residents.

Habitat for Humanity

Housing the homeless is what this team does on the third Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Whehter you’re a DIY pro, or you’ve never touched a hammer, there’s a place for you.

The Trinity Habitat team will next meet on Saturday, March 20 at 394 Dewitt.
